How to Fix Windows Error 39
If your operating system is Window XP, they you may meet Windows Error 39. Here we will introduce this issue as well as how to fix it.
What is the Issue?
When there is something wrong with your CD or DVD drive, you cannot play a CD or DVD. In that case you may receive an error code 39 message when you check the CD or DVD drive in the Device Manager.
How to Fix it?
The above-mentioned error appears since two Windows registry entries get corrupted. Therefore, you can solve this issue by deleting the corrupted ones.
Note: You are asked to modify the registry to settle this issue. We need to point out that incorrect editing may make it more complicated. So ensure that you are comfortable in editing the registry. In addition, you need to make registry backups beforehand. This can be realized by a credible registry cleaner tool like Lotoshare Registry Cleaner. Besides, you also need to work as an administrator, that is, you need to be logged in.
The following steps can help you delete the corrupted entries:
- Open Start and then choose Run.
- Input regedit and tap the OK.
- From the left-pane of the Registry Editor window that opens, find and tap the registry subkey below:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Cl ass\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - From the right-pane of the Registry Editor window, right-click UpperFilters and then press Delete.
- If you want to verify the deletion of the chosen registry value, then Click Yes.
- From the right-pane of the Registry Editor window that opens, right-click LowerFilters, and press Delete.
Note: If you don’t see the registry value LowerFilters in the right-pane then you had to omit these steps and move on to “Need More Help” section, from which you can find more information on how to fix this issue. - When asked for confirmation, choose Yes.
- Press File and then Exit to shut down Registry Editor.
- Reboot your PC.
If you cannot play a CD or DVD even after the drive is listed, you have to fix this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling programs like Nero Software, Zune, Roxio, iTunes, etc. If the above measure cannot work out, then see our “Need More Help” section.
If the above steps cannot make the drive listed, uninstall and reinstall drivers. This can be done as follows:
- Right-click the My Computer and then select Properties.
- Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
- Double-click DVD/CD-ROM drives.
- Right-click the CD and DVD devices and press Uninstall.
- Press OK to confirm removal.
- Reboot your PC.
Then the drivers can be installed and reboot automatically.
Now attempt to play your CD or DVD again. If it still doesn’t work, have to fix this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling programs like Nero Software, Zune, Roxio, iTunes, etc. If the above measure cannot work out, then navigate to our “Need More Help” section.
