How to Fix Uninstall Error 1316
You may come across the following error message when you attempt to upgrade software like Itunes, PalmOne or BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
“Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\installer\"Program Name".msi”.
To fix this issue, you need to use the Add or Remove Programs utility to uninstall the previous version.
If it fails, you can download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. With this tool, you can uninstall the previous version from your computer.
The following steps can help you uninstall the software by using Add or Remove Programs utility.
Use the Add or Remove Programs Utility to Uninstall the Software
Note: The following steps are for Windows XP computer. If you have a different operating system, the steps might be a little different.

- Open Start and select Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Find and choose the software you need to clean, and tap Remove.
- Uninstall the software by corresponding instructions.
If you cannot uninstall the software by the above steps or you cannot find the software in the list of the Add or Remove Programs, then do as follows:
Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to Uninstall the Software
Note: To run Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, you need to be logged in with Administrative rights.
- Navigate to Microsoft Support website, download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and store the file msicuu2 on your desktop.
- Double-click msicuu2 and then tap Run to start the installation process of the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
- Follow the prompts that show in the Windows Installer Cleanup Setup window and press Finish after installation.
- Open Start and select All Programs, and then tap Windows Install Clean Up to run the utility.
- From the Windows Installer Clean Up dialog box that opens, find and choose the software you want to clean. If more than one examples of the software are displayed, choose all of them.
- Click Remove.
- When a warning box pops up, select OK to uninstall the software.
- When the uninstallation is finished, tap Exit to shut down the Windows Installer Clean up dialog box.

We should note that Windows Installer Cleanup Utility not delete the actual program but delete the installation files to enable you to upgrade, install or uninstall the software. Therefore, when you completely delete the installation files of the software, select a new version and install it on your computer.
We also recommend you to use an advanced registry cleaner like Lotoshare Registry Cleaner to delete the entries that are relevant to the uninstalled software or program.
