How to Fix Browseui.dll Error in Windows XP
The browseui.dll file is usually used by the local Windows Explorer or Microsoft Internet Explore apps. The file includes information and functions for User Interface (UI) Management.

You may find the following error message appear on the computer screen when you open your Windows XP computer.
“Explorer.exe unable to locate component This application has failed to start because Browseui.dll was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
What’s worse, your screen may turn blank along with the missing of your taskbar, desktop icons, and start menu.

How to Fix it?
To settle this problem, you should first rename the browseui.dll file and then gain the browseui.dll file from your initial Windows XP installation disc. This can be achieved by the following steps.
Note: We made the following two assumptions before the following steps.
- C: is the Windows drive. That is to say, Windows should be installed on this drive.
- F: is the CD-ROM drive. That is to say, CD-ROM should be installed on this drive.
If the above assumptions are not in accord with your computer, please correct corresponding ones before you take the following steps.
- Reboot your computer and when the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) occurs, press F8 and then hold it.
- From Windows Advanced Options menu that opens, choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt and tap Enter.
- Insert your initial Windows XP disc.
- Next, at command quickly input cd c:\windows\system32 and tap Enter.
- Input the following commands and after each line tap Enter.
ren browseui.dll browseui.old.dll
F:cd
i386expand browseui.dll_c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll - Then, press Ctrl + Alt + Del, choose Shut Down by the Tab key and click Enter.
- From the What do you want the computer to do? List that opens, choose restart and then click Enter to restart Windows.
If your PC reboots in Normal Mode, you can run Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer apps to check if error messages like below will occur.
“Explorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.”
“Iexplorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.”
If either of the above error occurs, tap more information to verify the mod name. In case the mod name is browseui.dll, you need to unregister and reregister browseui.dll to settle the problem. This can be realized by the following steps:
- Open Start, select Run, input cmd and then click Enter.
- At command quickly input cd c:\windows\system32 and click Enter.
- Input regsvr32 browseui.dll /u and click Enter.
- Then input regsvr32 browseui.dll and click Enter.
- Input exit and click Enter.
- Reboot your PC.
Note: C: is supposed to be the Windows drive. That is to say, Windows should be installed on this drive. Therefore, in case you install Windows on the D: drive, substitute the letter C for D.
